I have been a renal nurse for more than twenty years, and have worked in a number of renal units in London . I worked at SWTIRR from 2003-2006 and I have now returned to work as senior lecturer at City University . I am also the part-time project co-ordinator for the Quality Improvement in CKD study.
I am undertaking a PhD at City University (2004-2008). My research is focusing on the care and management of patients with early diabetic kidney disease in primary care, and I am collaborating with six local GP surgeries. Whilst at SWTIRR I developed my research interests in pre-dialysis care and diabetes. I was part of the team that implemented the 'Expert Patient Programme' for our patients with kidney disease. I was one of the clinical leads in the pre-dialysis audit carried out on behalf of the Pan Thames Renal Audit Group.
I have edited two renal textbooks:
Thomas N. (ed.) (2004) Advanced Renal Care. Oxford , Blackwells
Thomas N. (ed.) (2002) Renal Nursing (2nd edition). Edinburgh, Ballière Tindall
